Benefits of CBD

Curious as to why you’re constantly seeing CBD mentioned everywhere? Think that it’s too good to be true? Not sure how to use it? We’re here to answer your questions! Over the last few years, CBD has gained significant momentum in the world of health and wellness. You may have seen CBD oil added into smoothies, drizzled on food, or you may have heard of CBD as a natural alternative to over-the-counter drugs. But what exactly is CBD? Why has it garnered so much attention?

What is CBD? A Brief Introduction

We all know what THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, is but what is CBD and how does it relate to THC? Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of over 100 compounds (cannabinoids) found in the Cannabis plant. Despite both being cannabinoids, CBD and THC interact with different receptors in your brain. Unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive or intoxicating which means when used, will not leave you feeling “high”. This makes CBD an appealing option for those looking for relief from pain and other symptoms without the mind-altering effects of marijuana or other over-the-counter/prescription drugs. You can read more in-depth on CBD in our previous blog post.

3 Benefits of CBD

So how can CBD help you?

  1. Manage stress and anxiety – CBD has been touted for its benefits as an anxiolytic and is commonly used to reduce anxiety. It can also naturally reduce your body’s stress response (so say goodbye cortisol) and helps reduce the breakdown of serotonin, the “happy chemical”, and anandamide, the “bliss molecule”. Serotonin is believed to regulate mood and low levels of serotonin linked to depression
  2. Reduce pain and inflammation – CBD has both anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties that can help relieve joint pain, arthritis, IBS, and other chronic painful conditions
  3. Improve your sleep – Get ready to get your ZZz on! CBD can support a more restful and deeper sleep by reducing chronic pain, anxiety and other challenges that prevent us from a deep, rejuvenating sleep. Studies show that CBD can aid with falling asleep and staying asleep. CBD can also help reduce REM sleep disorder

Ways to Consume CBD

Now that you know the benefits of CBD, you must be wondering, what are some ways to reap these benefits?

CBD Capsules

(Miss Envy Botanicals – CBD Caps)

If you’re new to taking CBD, capsules are a great way to start. Monitoring and finding the precise dosage that works best for you is easy with capsules since they already come in pre-measured sizes. Most customers start off with 20mg and slowly increase in 20mg increments until finding their ideal dosage. Capsules can take 45 minutes or longer to work, and effects can last up to several hours! Our most popular CBD capsules are from Miss Envy Botanicals – CBD Caps (Vegan Friendly!)

CBD Tinctures

(Coast Concentrates – CBD Isolate 900mg)

Another great way of consuming CBD is by way of tinctures. Because CBD tinctures and oils are highly concentrated, it is able to deliver CBD through the body much quicker than some other methods (i.e. capsules and edibles). Tinctures/oils are generally consumed by placing it sublingually (under your tongue) and holding it there for 60-90 seconds allowing it to be directly absorbed into your bloodstream for immediate effects. You can even use tinctures/oils in your beverages and food – add a few drops into your favourite smoothie recipe or drizzle it over your salads! Our most popular tinctures are: Coast Concentrates Full Spectrum 900mg CBD Tincture and Miss Envy 300mg CBD Tincture

CBD Edibles

(Twisted Extracts – Peach Jelly Bomb 80mg CBD)

Edibles are quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to enjoy CBD. Available in a variety of forms (gummies, chocolate, or baked edibles) and in an assortment of flavours, CBD edibles are convenient, delicious, and can be enjoyed discreetly. While it does takes a while for CBD edibles to take effect (usually between 30 minutes to 2 hours), the result is a relief that lasts 2-4 hours longer than other methods (i.e. capsules, tinctures, oils) because the CBD is slowly released over a longer period of time. Some of our most popular CBD edibles are 80mg CBD Cara-Melts and  80mg CBD Jelly Bombs from Twisted Extracts.

Vaping/High CBD Flower

(Left to Right: Elements – 1:1 CBD:THC Vape Pen Kit, Elements – 1:1 CBD:THC Vape Pen Cartridge, AAAA Charlotte’s Web – High CBD Sativa)

Vaping and smoking high CBD flower is one of the most effective and fastest methods for taking CBD because when inhaled, CBD enters directly into the bloodstream through your lungs and avoids having to pass through the digestive tract. Effects can take place in 10 minutes or less. All of our CBD Refill Cartridges are free of additives and do not contain propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine (VG), or Vitamin E acetate.
